One of the best things about a short-term loan is how little paperwork it needs. You don't need salary slips couriered, a guarantor or a branch visit. Here is exactly which documents are required for a short-term loan, how KYC works and what you should never be asked for.
The three things you need
- PAN card — to verify your identity and check your credit report (CIBIL).
- Aadhaar — for online KYC (identity and address verification).
- Your salary bank account — the account where your salary is credited. The loan is sent to this account and repaid from it.
That's it — only PAN card and Aadhaar card, no other documents, and the whole process is 100% paperless. The bank account is only where the money is sent; the lender may check your salary credits online on its own secure page, with nothing to upload.
Do I upload documents on the BrightDhan form?
No. The BrightDhan form only asks six simple questions — mobile number, loan amount, monthly salary, city, approximate CIBIL score and your name. You don't upload any documents on our page.
If your profile fits, you continue to the lending partner's secure page, where KYC is done online.
How online KYC works
- PAN verification — your PAN details are checked with official records.
- Aadhaar e-KYC — usually through an OTP sent to the mobile number linked with your Aadhaar. You enter this OTP only on the lender's official KYC screen — never share it with anyone on a call or message.
- Bank account verification — the lender confirms the account is in your name, often with a small test credit or through net banking.
- Selfie / video check — some lenders do a quick selfie or video verification for safety.
What you should NEVER be asked for
- Your UPI PIN, ATM PIN, CVV or net-banking password
- An OTP over a phone call
- Any payment before the loan ("file charges", "insurance", "approval fee")
- Original documents handed to an agent
If someone asks for any of these, stop and report it. Read our 10 safety checks before taking a short-term loan online.
Eligibility, not just documents
Having the documents is only part of it. For a short-term loan you also need to be a salaried employee aged 21–58, have a CIBIL score of 700 or more, and no late EMI payments in the last 6 months. Check yourself in under a minute with the eligibility checker.
Tips for a smooth application
- Keep your PAN and Aadhaar handy and make sure the mobile number linked to Aadhaar is with you for the OTP.
- Make sure the name on your PAN, Aadhaar and bank account matches.
- Apply with the bank account where your salary comes — it makes verification simpler.
- Check your CIBIL score beforehand if you are not sure of it.
The bottom line
A short-term loan needs just your PAN card and Aadhaar card (plus the salary bank account where the money is sent) — 100% paperless, with KYC done online on the lender's secure page — no documents to upload on our form and nothing to pay in advance.
